Greetings folks, and a very warm welcome to my new subscribers.
Shedquarters is bustling with activity, and all because the lady got a Bookbub US Featured Deal. Those of you who aren’t authors might not understand a word I’m on about, but suffice it say that R.K. Lander is on sale all week. I’ll post the deals below in case any of you would like to pick up a bargain on any (or all) of my three starter series.
Writing is going at a splendid pace, and I am proud to say that we are moving into the third draft of Call Of Adakia, Silvan Outlands Book 3. What does this mean? Well, I’m amazed to say that we are ahead of schedule. I had originally planned to release the book in September, but I am pretty sure it will be August, and who knows, even before. And if I can get it to coincide with the release of the audio for Sons of Adakia, wouldn’t that be cool?
I’ve also been fiddling with Facebook ads. It’s something I’ve always struggled with. I used to complain that there are no decent targets for fantasy authors like myself. But then I went to the GPS conference in Seville and spoke to someone particularly versed in the subject. He blew my mind with the simplicity of his suggestions and I have been trying it out. I’m not sure, but I think it’s working. Time will tell.
Another decision I made after that conference, was to finally get a translation done of the original series. Spanish was the obvious choice, first because I live in Spain, and secondly, because I speak the language. I’m not sure how long it will take, but it is happening, at last. What other languages would you like to see the Silvan translated to?
Thinking about future conferences, I’m contemplating attending the Ireland conference near Shannon. Wouldn’t it be fabulous to meet up with some of you there over St. Patricks, 2025! Let me know if you’re in the area :) Another option is Vegas in November, but can I be asked to sit on a plane for ten hours? um…
It hasn’t all been work, mind. I was dragged out of the house by my fellow Writer’s Covern sisters Karen and Helen. Thank goodness for fabulous author friends otherwise I would have sat in my pyjamas all day, sitting in front of the screen with endless cups of tea, and then wine after six.
Have you seen the May Fantasy Bookfair? Take a look at this collection of books. Silvan Outlands is in there somewhere. For US readers, there’s a great competition you can enter for too, so don’t miss it!
At the end of the day, it’s Bella and Gracie who keep me sane when work gets out of control. Hurrah for fabulous podenco hounds who make be get off my backside for walks and food, or for the simple satisfaction of interrupting me.
That’s all for now. It’s back to work for me. Next time I check in, I’ll let you know how the campaign went, and whether my tomatoes are actually starting to grow or not. Take care, happy reading, and until next time.
Ruth.
Hello . Great series. It reminds me of My favorite novel (well in addition to Tolstoy and Ulitiskaya) David Gemmell, in that you have dialogue that matters in your novels. Also the quality has increased , not decreased which is the normal course for fantasy authors . Gemmel used people around him and his own situation as a basis for his writing. I do not know what you do, but I think its fun to have real people and drama in a fantasy setting. Best wishes . Eirik :)
